After the Change

by Donna Vorreyer

I splinter the green with my animal
smell. My body a sack of hand
grenades and shattered glass.
I candy this drought with my brittle
desire. My body a crossing
of cobwebs and sugared floss.
I docile each crack with foundation
and adhesive. My body
a curled currency that buys nothing.
My dormancy devours comfort,
my curves a ceremonial sacrifice.
Yet my ducts still color with other,
the blood still diligent in its rivering.
